Trevor Sterling, Partner at Moore Barlow

Trevor is an Equity Partner at Moore Barlow with over 35 years’ experience. At Moore Barlow he established a dedicated and award-winning Major Trauma Service with a focus on rehabilitation. He sits on the firm’s Partnership Council and has a leading role in respect of Diversity and Inclusion.

He has been involved in some of the country’s highest-profile actions including the Paddington Rail Crash, Croydon Tram disaster, Jimmy Savile Child Abuse cases and the Westminster Terrorist attacks. He is one of a few lawyers in the country to have had success in the House of Lords with the landmark Employer’s Liability suicide case of Corr v IBC Vehicles Ltd., the first of its type since 1957.

Trevor has won several professional awards including receiving the Law Society’s “Rising Star: Advocate in the Face of Adversity Award” in 2008, Rehabilitation First Awards in 2013, 2014 and
2016. He was also highly commended at the Law Society’s Excellence Awards in 2018 in the“Solicitor of the Year” category and was awarded “Solicitor of the Year – Private Practice” at the UK Legal Diversity Awards in 2019.

At age 28, Trevor became the first black and youngest partner in the history of his previous firm. He then went on to establish the Capital Mentoring Scheme to support young people at risk of
underachievement. He was involved in the unveiling of the Nelson Mandela statue at Parliament Sq., London and is the Chair of the Mary Seacole Trust which unveiled the first bronze statue of a named black female in the UK. The Mary Seacole Trust promotes diversity and social equality.

Trevor has appeared in the media on numerous occasions, most notably he was involved in campaigns in respect of the Windrush Scandal and Black Lives Matter. He is passionate about
diversity and inclusion regularly speaking and writing on the subject.
