Kim Sowemimo, Global Clinical Development Manager at GSK, and Black Pharma member

Kim is a Global Clinical Development Manager at GSK, specialising in Study Start-up strategy and planning. She is passionate about delivering solutions that drive operational excellence and provides strategic input into global start-up activities.

Previously a Policy and Process Manager, Kim has provided change leadership by championing cross-functional process improvements across clinical development. Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, she has co-led the deployment of innovative technologies that increase efficiencies and promote compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Outside of work, Kim is passionate about mentoring young people to realise their potential and achieve their career ambitions. Over the course of 10+ years she has partnered with several charities and churches supporting the personal and academic development of young people; with a particular focus on those serving disadvantaged communities.

In August 2020, Kim joined with colleagues within the Pharmaceutical Industry to launch Black Pharma, an organisation driving greater representation and recognition of black talent within the industry. As a co-founder Kim is proud to actively support diverse candidates having increased access to opportunities, training, resources and networks; with the vision of achieving racial parity in the Life Science workforce.

Black Pharma’s vision is to see a greater representation of black professionals across the Pharmaceutical industry. We work to facilitate access to industry jobs and support opportunities for professional development.

Through this, our mission is to ensure that talented black professionals have the right opportunities to maximise their potential, make a positive impact and effectively contribute to the wellbeing of the patients they serve.

Creating access

We work to facilitate access to the industry through apprenticeships, student industry placements, graduate schemes/roles, entry-level roles and experienced roles.

Enabling success

In order to ensure that black professionals not only gain access to the industry, but also successfully progress in their career, Black Pharma provides personal and career development services to equip candidates with the skills and knowledge required to be successful in Pharma.
